I bet right now you are thinking of flautas? These are not those delightful Mexican treats, these are even better! These are made with flour tortillas and coated in a cinnamon sugar topping.
When I have these, I always think of my mom baking up bits of pie crust that she did not use and coating it in cinnamon and sugar. These seriously taste quite similar, only we are putting apple pie filling into a flour tortilla.
This is a perfect dessert for taco night at our house. Everybody absolutely loves these treats. Taco night is a pretty laid back meal as far as I am concerned. I make the meat mix, any side we have with it and then put the toppings into bowls.
If I am making a dessert, it should be just as simple right? Mexican desserts are known to be time consuming ordeals. This dessert will replace those and save you tons of time.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Can I use a different pie filling?
Sure you can use any flavor you want to in these. Apple is the flavor my troop prefers.
Do I serve these as they are?
No, you could put a scoop of vanilla ice cream into a bowl and lay a couple of warm apple Pie Tortilla pies on either side of the ice cream.
Can I make these ahead of time?
You could definitely make them ahead of time. Do not fill them with the pie filling until you are ready to eat. Once the taco shell has cooled for you, place them into a zip baggie or an airtight container.
Can I use canned pie filling?
Yes, I did make my own. You can certainly save more time by buying it canned and heating it up.
