Banana Split Kabobs

Banana Splits were always the treat I wanted from Dairy Queen, but was never allowed to have as I was growing up. I seriously did not have a banana split until I became an adult.

I was not one of those high school kids that was able to work at an ice cream shop while in school. However, we all knew what these treats were and we all wanted one!. Well, I am switching this up a bit on you, these are not actual banana splits. All the great flavors are there, just not in a banana boat.

The traditional Banana Split has ice cream, pineapple, strawberries, chocolate and bananas, along with the whipping cream and nuts. These are close but there is no ice cream. You know what? You will not even miss it, that is how awesome these are!!

Instead of a banana boat, we are going to place the pieces onto skewers and you can dip into the whipping cream for each bite. I chuckle each time I have one of these, whipping cream was another item that we did not get much of growing up, however, I can fill a bowl, top it with nuts and dip each and every bite!

Frequently Asked Questions:

I do not see Chocolate topping in the recipe?

No, and you will not. In this recipe we are using small bites of brownies on the skewers along with the fruit pieces.

Can I use a low fat whipping cream?

Oh yes, you could. You could also use a custard if you wanted instead of whipping cream.

Do I have to use the skewers?

No, absolutely not! However, not using them takes away from the fun of the kabob fun. Try it once, you may find that you really enjoy it.

Could I have a dish of soft serve ice cream to dip these in?

You could definitely do that. I think it would be more of a traditional manner of eating a banana split. Once you dip it into the ice cream, or spoon some on, you could always spoon some whipped topping on after. Voila’ successful Banana Split
