Affordable Learning Resources For Kids: Learning Resources Review + Giveaway

Teaching your children at home isn’t easy.

Especially if you never thought you would. After all, you’d not planned or prepared for this.

I know so many friends and family members who have children in mainstream education who despite the teachers best efforts in providing resources and zoom classes are struggling right now. Struggling to balance their own lives and in some cases career with the education of their children.

An while I started this blog with the aim of sharing my experiences as a homeschooling mom, I’m well aware that in 2020 and subsequently in 2021, everyone is a homeschooling mom.

Which is why when Learning Resources, the home of educational insights got in touch and asked me if I’d be interested in reviewing some of their most popular products, I obliged. After all, I’ve been purchasing from Learning Resources for almost a decade now.

I, therefore, know first hand what fantastic customer service and quality products my readers will receive when purchasing from them.

An while this is a partnership, and I was sent these products for free to review, I want you to know that I care deeply about my reputation, and therefore pride myself on being as open and honest as I possibly can be when reviewing these products.

MathLink Cubes Activity Set

The MathLink Cubes activity set supports the Mathematics Mastery approach. Suitable for children aged 3 upwards, if there was one item I recommended purchasing from this list it would be this one.

The set includes 100 MathLink Cubes in ten colours and 15 double-sided activity cards. Although there are plenty of other activity ideas available online.

The cubes and activity cards combined are designed to help children build a variety of mathematical skills including;

  • Patterning and sequencing
  • Sorting and grouping
  • Early arithmetic: addition, subtraction and multiplication
  • Size recognition
  • Colour recognition
  • Ordering
  • Measurement

The Learning Resources website has a variety of MathLink products, all of which are compatible with one and other. This is the perfect foundation, but feel free to check out some of the other products if you’re children are enjoying these resources but are no longer finding them challenging.

Sum Swamp™ Addition & Subtraction Game

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of gameschooling and many of the games we’ve purchased over the years have come from Learning Resources.

Sum Swamp, is designed to build mental maths agility and confidence in children aged 5+ by solving simple addition and subtraction sums.

The game is suitable for between 2 and 4 players. It’s incredibly easy to understand, and each round only takes around 10 minutes – perfect for short attention spans.

Each game contains 1 game board, 4 game markers, 2 number dice, 1 operation die and multilingual Directions for Game Play guide.

Fraction Tower® Cubes – Equivalency Set®

For older children, I recommend picking up a set of fraction tower cubes.

These colourful, durable, interlocking Fraction Tower Cubes are perfect for exploring and comparing fractions!

The set contains 51 fraction cubes and can be used alone or with additional fraction tower products from Learning Resources including the deluxe fraction tower.

I’m not sure that the set needed to go all the way down to 8%, however, in this situation I guess it’s better to have more than less.

24-Hour Number Line Clock

A clock is just a circular number line. Once children understand this, learning to tell the time becomes easier.

The innovative 24-Hour Number Line Clock teaching clock helps children learn time by physically transforming a number line onto a clock face.

The durable plastic teaching clock comprises a base, removable clock face number lines and removable hands (red for hour and blue for minute).

Number line clock faces comprise hour face numbered 1-12, hour face featuring both 12- and 24-hour numerals, and minute face numbered in five-minute intervals from 0-60.
