DIY Poo-Pourri with Essential Oils

Have you heard of "Poo-Pourri"? It's a product that, when sprayed in a toilet, traps the odor of your... ahem... 'poo'... beneath the surface of the water in the toilet. I was intrigued to discover that it's basically a combination of oils and water (and something to make the two combine since oil and water don't mix). And it's something you can definitely make on your own. Let's make some DIY Poo-Pourri with essential oils.

It's easy to make your own bathroom spray with just a few products. Here's how to make your own DIY poo-pourri with essential oils.

DIY Poo-Pourri

Making your own DIY Poo-Pourri is very simple. You'll need (these are affiliate links):

A glass bottle is essential if you're planning to use any kind of citrus oils (which will eat through a plastic container). And it must be a dark amber or blue to protect the structure of the oils (light can damage the cellular structure of the oils). The alcohol or witch hazel help the oils disperse through the water, though you'll still want to shake the bottle before using.

Add about a teaspoon of alcohol or witch hazel to your spray bottle. Choose your favorite scent of oils - any combination will do. We really like the combination of Joy, Grapefruit, and Lavender. Add about 10 drops of each (so 30 drops total). Fill the bottle with water, put on the cover, and give the bottle a good shake. Keep it near your toilet and you are all set.

If you find the scent isn't strong enough or you prefer a stronger formula, you can certainly add more essential oil.

How to use your DIY Poo-Pourri

The only real guideline is that you must spray the bowl before you go! Spray 3-4 times into the bowl, do your business, close the toilet lid, and flush. Enjoy the fragrance of your oils because that is all you will smell!

Have you tried Poo-Pourri?

I'm always delighted to find a new way to use essential oils (I just like 'em so much!) and this is one that I will keep using because it really works!
