My skin gets so dry in the winter. I don't have to really worry about it the rest of the year, but once cold weather starts moving in, my hands get very, very dry. I've tried many different lotions - some have worked better than others. But the best solution I've found is this simple soothing skin balm.
The Many Benefits of Coconut Oil

This soothing skin balm recipe starts with one basic ingredient - coconut oil. Coconut oil is a fabulous ingredient for skin. It's a rich oil that can nourish and protect the driest of skin. Here are a few of the benefits of using coconut oil:
- natural skin moisturizer
- antibacterial properties
The second ingredient I use in my soothing skin balm is lavender essential oil - another great ingredient for providing soothing and calming relief to dry skin. And it just smells good!
Simple & Soothing Skin Bal
This easy recipe couldn’t be simpler. All you need to do is whip your (solid) coconut oil with a hand mixer until it has a creamy texture. Add your drops of essential oil and give it another go with the hand-mixer until it’s combined. Then scoop it into a small glass jar. Keep it in a cool and dark location when not in use.
Of course, this is a great basic recipe to creating your own combinations. Try a different essential oil or add some extra Vitamin E for a greater antioxidant boost. You could also add some almond oil or shea butter if you have extremely dry skin. It’s very easy to customize your own soothing skin balm.
To use, just dip clean fingers into the oil, scooping out what you need and massage into clean, dry skin. It works very well for hands and face. It’s especially nice on dry, cracked winter feet.
It’s simple enough to make your own soothing skin balm (and it’s chemical free!) and nice enough that you could make up pretty little jars to give away as gifts.
