Winter Books for Kids

Winter is a great time to curl up with your kids and a good read aloud. I have to say that it's probably my favorite winter activity. I would much rather be inside with a hot drink and a good book than outside! If you're looking for a great read aloud for your family - I have some suggestions for you.

Winter is a great time to curl up with your kids and a good read aloud. Here are my favorite winter books for kids - perfect for that snowy afternoon.

Winter books for kids

I have some very fond memories of curling up with TJ and a pile of picture books. These are some that we enjoyed that featured the winter season - snow, cold weather, fun times outdoors, and cozy times inside.

The Snowy Day was one of our favorites when TJ was little - it's such a great picture book. If you only read one book about winter with your little ones, I highly suggest The Snowy Day.

10 Favorite Winter Chapter Books

The next 10 books aren't necessarily all about winter, but winter is mentioned in the books (and really, who wants to read all about winter IN the winter?). But they are definitely good books for kids!

{Though I'm not sure I'd read The Long Winter in the winter - that was one very looong winter! Save it for summertime!}

The Snow Queen

This 5-day unit study will guide you in a week devoted to reading and learning with your 2nd-6th grade students. Read The Snow Queen and other fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen, discuss the story, compare the original and Disney’s Frozen, make a map, and do some hands-on activities. You’ll find plenty of ideas to fill your week!
