Chicken Fried Steaks are actually not chicken as it says. The Chicken Fried Steak is called this because it has a fried chicken coating on it. This steak is actually a beef cube steak.
The Chicken Fried Steaks are most often fried in oil. These are made differently, they are fried first, then they are baked instead and they also have a tasty mushroom gravy instead of a Country Gravy. Country Gravy is special in its own way as it is a white gravy with fresh ground black pepper.
Country Fried Steaks can be made for breakfasts or for dinners. They serve well for either one. The Country Fried Steak is actually quite an economical meal.
Serve it up with mashed potatoes and a side salad and you are set.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Do I have to use cube steak in these?
Honestly, I believe cube steak works the best when making these. However, I have heard of people using ground beef, or ground chuck steak.
The recipe calls for Cream of Chicken Soup, why?
The coating on the cube steak is a coating that is used for frying chicken. You want to enhance the flavor without changing the entire flavor.
Can I freeze these?
Do not freeze them with the gravy, the coating will become soggy. Freeze them without the gravy and be sure to place them in an airtight container or in a ziploc freezer bag.
How do I store these?
These can be kept in an airtight container and in the refrigerator for up to 3 or 4 days.
