Dutch Apple Bread

This bread recipe has definitely become a favorite of mine. I can serve this for a light breakfast, a midmorning snack, late afternoon snack or after dinner. Yes, I like snacking on this delightful bread. It has such a warm and inviting flavor.

It actually reminds me of fall. Which, by the way, is right around the corner. This bread is slightly sweet, has a delicious topping and glaze and just makes me say YUM! I have learned to double the batch so there is enough for everyone.

The texture I get after baking this bread is more like a pound cake, which I love also. It is moist and perfectly crumbly. You could actually use any variety of apple for this recipe.

I think you should find one that is sturdier and will hold up to the baking. You do want to avoid the softer types such as Red Delicious or Goldens.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Which type of apple do you suggest?

Personally, I like to use the Granny Smith apples. They just hold up better the way I like. You could also use Fiji or HoneyCrisp.

            Does any loaf pan work?

I like my ceramic or aluminized steel loaf pans the best. These types bake more evenly than others.

How can I keep this bread fresh?

This bread should be wrapped tightly in plastic wrap and kept in the refrigerator. As long as it is in an airtight wrapping or container, you could keep it on the counter also for 1 to 2 days. In the refrigerator it will last for 4 to 5 days. You can keep this in the freezer, wrapped tightly in plastic, and keep it for 3 months.
