Here we are again, sending you another sweet treat that is to die for! I love the combination of pecans, caramel and chocolate. I really think that the person who made these, knew I was going to be born. Invented around 1918, these little sweet treats have become a classic.
I believe the original company is still made. This is going to be the easiest recipe that you have ever made. It will become a staple in your home. You need only the three ingredients which are probably in your pantry already.
I wonât lie, I prefer homemade caramel to any store bought caramels. But I know that not everyone can make their own caramel. So buy the brand you like, and melt them in your fashion.
This is the same for chocolate. I know there are so many variations out there for which chocolate you should use.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Which type of chocolate is recommended?
I prefer to use semi-sweet chocolate chips. You could use milk chocolate chips or even chocolate almond bark. I have also been known to make these with white chocolate and white almond bark.
Do I have to use pecans?
Pecans are the ones that were used when the candy was first made. The combination of flavors is what makes the candy taste so perfect. Roasted peanuts and almonds are also commonly used in this treat.
What kind of Caramels should I use?
I have used Werthers, Kraft and I have also made my own. All of these methods work awesome. You could also use baking caramel pieces.
How do I store Turtles?
I keep the turtles in an airtight container on my counter. I have also placed them in the refrigerator during the warmer seasons. As long as they are in an airtight container, they will remain good.
