Onion Gravy Smothered Hamburger Steaks

Who does not love a juicy hamburger steak smothered with a luscious onion gravy? This hamburger steak is not  that hard slab of meat that used to be called a hamburger steak. This one is tender, it is flavorful and it is so easy to make. This is for those families that love to eat steak, but can not due to the expense.

There is a difference between a Hamburger Steak and a Salisbury steak or a meatloaf. A hamburger steak does not contain any egg. While in the others, an egg is used as a binder to hold the meat together.

Meatloaf also has a bad reputation for being ground beef mixed with the weeks worth of leftovers from the refrigerator. A true hamburger steak can be eaten with a fork from a plate or even put on a bun.

Do you get it now? It tastes like a hamburger should be, not an imitation of something else.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I use a mix of meat?

I would stick with just beef to get the authentic real beef taste of a hamburger steak.

Is it true that great chef’s institute butter into the mix?

Yes, a chef will shred some butter and add it to the meat to keep it juicy as it cooks. The butter needs to be frozen when it is shredded.

You say to not overwork the meat, why not?

When you work the meat too much it will become tough, no matter what trick is used. The less you handle the meat, the better it will be and the juicier it will remain.

How do I store this dish?

These hamburger steaks can be stored in an airtight container and placed into the refrigerator for up to 3 or 4 days. You could also place them into the freezer, also in an airtight container, for up to 3 months.
