Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I make this ahead of time?

You can make it in advance and keep it in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

How long does it need to bake?

On average a casserole of any type can take 30 minutes or more, this breakfast casserole needs to bake for 35 to 45 minutes. An easy way to check for doneness is to use a thermometer and let it cook until the internal temp is 160*.

However, if you have made this in advance and are cooking it from a cold state, then you will need an extra 20 minutes of cooking time.

                        Should I bake it covered?

I have always left mine uncovered while baking. Since so many ovens vary in temperature and inside space, there is always a variant when it comes to cooking. If you prefer, you can cover the casserole with foil. You will not have any crispy portions if you cover it while baking.

                        Can I freeze this casserole?

You can definitely freeze it. If prepared in advance you can cover tightly with plastic wrap first and then a layer of aluminum foil. It can be frozen before cooking or after cooking and still come out wonderfully.
