Seven Layer Salad

Seven layer salads have been around forever. They are one of those dishes that are brought to every Church function, bridal shower, baby shower and so many other gatherings that some people have literally grown up eating Seven layer salads.

This salad is not only tasty, it is a very pretty salad. It is highly suggested that you put this salad together in a clear dish. This is how you are able to see all the layers lined up.

The ingredients are pretty hearty types of ingredients, which allows you to make this salad a day or two ahead of time. As long as you layer the salad, you could basically use any ingredients you wanted to.

This is also a very versatile recipe. You can switch up the ingredients and change them out. The main point of the salad is to stick with the coloring.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Should I use mayonnaise or Miracle Whip?

Miracle Whip already includes sugar, spices and paprika, this makes it much easier to use as the dressing for the top.

You said stick with the colors, what do you mean?

If you want to change out cheese and you were using cheddar, be sure to use another cheese that has the same coloring. As an example, instead of cheddar, you can use Yellow American. If you do not want green peppers, use Avocado in its place. No tomatoes, use red peppers.

Won’t the lettuce get soggy if I make it ahead of time?

Much of the heartiness of the salad is how the layers are put together. Any type of lettuce can become soggy when it sits in dressing, or has dressing on it. Lettuce should be a layer where there are only dry ingredients, per se, on top and bottom of the lettuce.
