Sweet Breakfast Bake with Chocolate Croissants

         Whoa! Did I say breakfast and chocolate in the same line? Count me in! Who could possibly say no to a breakfast that includes chocolate? Not me!!! Breakfast is the meal that starts off your day the right way.

So go ahead and include chocolate, to give your day a start with a big smile. This would be a great idea for Holiday mornings, sweet chocolate, croissants and cream cheese. This would also make a wonderful dessert or a great snack in the middle of the day.

            This sweet treat has a buttery croissant and a creamy chocolate custard. Let’s be clear though, a croissant is much different than a crescent roll.

Do not make the mistake of picking up a can of rolled crescent dough. You would be highly disappointed.

            Can I use crescent rolls?

No, the crescent roll is too thin to hold the custard without turning into a sloppy mess.

            What bread can I use instead?

Stale croissants are the best, however, you could use stale Texas Toast bread, or a brioche roll, or even a roll of French bread.

            Can I add fruit to this croissant?

Adding berries of any sort or bananas would taste excellent. You could even add nutella to the custard mix to give an additional layer of flavor. Coffee is an awesome addition. You could add 2 tablespoons of instant espresso to the custard for a boost of energy in the morning.

            What can I add as a topping?

I usually dust the tops with a touch of brushed on melted butter and then I sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on top.

            How can I dry out the croissants?

Tear the croissants into pieces and place onto a baking sheet. Bake in a 250* oven until the croissant pieces dry out.

            1 dozen or more of mini croissants

            4 ounces of cream cheese, softened

            1 ½ cup whole milk

            ½ cup evaporated milk

            1 bag mini chocolate chips

            8 large eggs

            ½ cup packed brown sugar

            2 tbsp vanilla extract

            ¼ tsp salt

How to make Sweet Breakfast Bake with Chocolate Croissants

FIRST STEP:

Tear the croissants into bite sized pieces

Place a layer of croissant pieces into the bottom of a 9×13 baking dish

SECOND STEP:

Pour half of the bag of the chocolate pieces over the top of the croissant pieces

Cut 4 ounces of the cream cheese into cubes and then place those cubes on top of the chocolate chips

THIRD STEP:

Top this with another layer of croissant pieces

Then place the remaining chocolate chips on top of the croissants

FOURTH STEP:

Whisk together the eggs

Add 1 ½ cups whole milk to the beaten eggs

FIFTH STEP:

Pour in ½ cup evaporated milk

Sprinkle in ½ cup brown sugar

SIXTH STEP:

Add in ¼ tsp salt

Pour in the 2 tbsp of vanilla extract

Cover and refrigerate the dish overnight

EIGHTH STEP:

Remove the dish from the refrigerator
