This recipe has the ranch mixed in with cream of chicken soup. It adds a delightful and unexpected zing to the flavor. I would stick with this one.

            Can I use french fries for the top?

Well, yes you could. However, remember that tater tots are seasoned perfectly and have a different taste than french fries do. In a pinch though, I would assume that french fries would work.

            Could I use cream of mushroom soup instead of the chicken soup?

Certainly, it is an option. I prefer the way the mushroom tastes and I am not a fan of the chicken bits in the cream of chicken. But when all the ingredients are combined, the cream of chicken tastes way better!

What do you need to make Chicken Bacon Ranch Tater Tot Casserole

            3 cups of cooked and shredded chicken

            1 can cream of chicken soup

            1 cup cooked, chopped bacon

            1 pkg Ranch dressing mix

            16 ounces sour cream

            2 cups Cheddar Cheese, shredded

            2 pound bag of frozen tater tots

How to make Chicken Bacon Ranch Tater Tot Casserole

FIRST STEP:

Preheat the oven to 350*

Lightly spray a 9 x 13 baking dish, with non stick spray

SECOND STEP:

In a large bowl mix together the sour cream, cream of chicken soup, chopped bacon, ranch seasoning mix and shredded cheese

Stir to combine really well

THIRD STEP:

Toss in the cut up chicken and stir to combine

Fold in the frozen tater tots

FOURTH STEP:

Spoon into the prepared pan

Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until bubbly

Notes:

Rather than stirring the tater tots into the casserole with all the ingredients, you can lay them out on the top of the casserole. Then for the last few minutes of cooking, sprinkle some more cheese on the top and allow the cheese to melt.

You can also replace the bacon with turkey bacon to make this a little bit healthier. One more suggestion sent in by a reader is to use taco seasoning in place of the ranch seasoning and have a mexican chicken casserole.
