I have been eating this for quite some time, but I never knew what it was called. I had heard name after name for it. This dessert certainly is like heaven with every bite you take. So it would make sense when some call it Heaven on Earth cake. When my mom made it, she called it Cherry Trifle, but that was not the real name she said. So I am going to combine the name and change a touch of the recipe to make it mine. I realize everyone will still call it what they choose though.
This is a heavenly dessert though. Bits of Angel food cake, cherry pie filling and a combination of vanilla pudding with sour cream. Oh and do not forget the whipped topping and almonds.
It is actually very easy to make, but easier to eat. It is a layered dessert, creamy and delightful on the taste buds.
I would understand people calling this Heaven on Earth!
Frequently Asked Questions:
Do I have to use Angel Food Cake?
No, you could substitute the Angel food Cake for a good Pound Cake. You could literally use any flavor of cake or cookie that you would like to use.
Do I need to make my own whipped topping?
I use Cool Whip to save time. You can make your own if you have the time and a great recipe for it.
What size pan is best?
That depends, if you want the dessert to be a little thicker, use a square 9 x 9, if the thickness does not matter, you can use a 9 x 13 pan. I use the 9 x 13.
Can this dessert be frozen?
I do not suggest freezing this. The consistency would change drastically upon thawing.
Can the pie filling be changed?
The cherry pie filling makes this taste wonderful with the vanilla pudding. You can certainly change it out for any type of pie filling you want.
Can I change the pudding flavor?
You can, this is just the basic recipe. If you want to experiment with different options, please do.
