Banana Cake Pudding

            This is one of those desserts that you believe is going to take all day to make. It really doesn’t. It is a pretty simple dessert filled with flavor. This is considered to be the quintessential dessert in the southern States. There are a few simple tricks to make this dessert the number one choice of millions of dessert lovers.

            This is also considered one of those desserts that could be called a layered dessert. This is kind of a 4 layered cake. 

We do not actually layer any of the ingredients. You could at some point try to layer this recipe and let me know how it turns out.

Can I use real banana slices?

We do use sliced bananas in the filling layer. The cake layer is made with a homemade white cake and banana pudding.

Is it frosting that I use on the top?

This recipe calls for cream cheese mixed with whipped topping.The flavors together set this dessert over the top.

What do I use as a garnish?

My husband and I made a decision to top our individual slices of bananas on our pieces of cake.

What ingredients do you need for Banana Cake Pudding

For the cake:

1 cup milk

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 ⅔ cup white sugar

3 large eggs

2 egg whites

1 tbsp baking powder

3 cups all purpose flour

2 tsp vanilla extract

1 box instant banana flavored pudding

The filling:

1 box vanilla pudding, instant

1 ½ cups of milk

1 cup Cool Whip

2 large bananas, sliced

The topping:

3 to 4 cups of thawed Cool Whip

8 ounce cream cheese, softened

Sweetened Condensed Milk to drizzle on the top

Vanilla Wafers

How to make Banana Cake Pudding

First Step:

Preheat the oven to 350*

Cream together the sugar and the softened butter

Add in eggs and egg whites

Place the flour, banana pudding, baking powder and the vanilla and mix until combined well

Second Step:

Add in the milk and beat until smooth

Grease two equal size round pans, divide the batter equally between the two

Third Step:

Bake for 30 minutes until baked through, use a toothpick to test for doneness

Remove to a rack and cool completely

Fourth Step:

Mix the vanilla pudding, milk and whipping cream until smooth

Place in the refrigerator to thicken while the cake cools

Spread the filling mixture over the top of one layer

Slice a banana and place the slices on top of the filling mixture

Fifth Step:

Place the second layer on top of the first

Sixth Step:

Place the second layer on top of the first

Frost the outside of the cake with the cool whip, decorate with bananas and vanilla wafers

Seventh Step:

Drizzle the sweetened condensed milk gently over the top as added decorations.

Notes

If wanted, you could crush some of the vanilla wafers and sprinkle them on the sides and top of the cake.  Refrigerate until ready to slice and serve.
