Slow Cooked Brisket

Beef Brisket is not a meal if you want good food in a very short time. Beef brisket NEEDS to be cooked very slowly. This allows all those connective tissues to break down and the brisket becomes fork tender and juicy and flavorful! All done in a slow cooker.

Although this starts as a tough cut of meat, when it is cooked properly and slowly, it has a better flavor than say, a chuck roast.

This recipe involves very few ingredients, this is done on purpose so that you can enjoy the full flavor of this cut of meat. A brisket can be served with a side of mashed potatoes, Fried cabbage with bacon, roasted vegetables or even macaroni and cheese.

You will commonly see brisket already made into Corned Beef, Pastrami or Silverside, which is brisket that has been brined. Brisket is actually a cut of beef that is meant to be slow cooked. A beef brisket will continue to hold it’s shape even after hours of cooking.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can Brisket be eaten medium rare?

Brisket does need to be cooked thoroughly to be eaten. If left while still pink, it will be an extremely tough piece of meat. Too hard to chew properly.

How long do I need to cook a Brisket?

In a slow cooker, 8 to 10 hours. In a pressure cooker for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or 5 hours in a conventional oven at 320*.

Beef brisket can be eaten sliced, pulled for sandwiches. You could also use barbecue sauce to slow cook the meat in. The brisket can be smoked or brined. If you have a recipe, you can also make it into corned beef to enjoy in Ruebens or Corned beef and cabbage.

There are many of us who are intimidated by the thought of getting a tender brisket cooked. If you follow this recipe, you will have exactly that, a tender, yet juicy cut of beef that you will love. So do not let this cut scare you out of trying it. You will find that you enjoy the flavor so much you will be trying many different variations.

If you are planning a nice picnic with family this summer, start your brisket in the slow cooker before you go to bed one night. I would use the barbecue sauce for this. When this is slow cooked in Barbecue, you can serve it with sweet corn on the cob, chips and fruit salad for a perfect picnic meal.
