It’s not quite shocking to say that all my favorite food recipes are given by my Nana. She will definitely agree with the fact that this Fried Chicken steak is the best out there which one can have.

Chicken Fried Steak: Dinner or Breakfast??

One can have it for either dinner or for brunch. If one has to go for having these yummy fried chicken steaks for dinner ,then it can be served with the yummy mashed potatoes, my Nana’s beans can just add more to it, also that thick gravy which is just enough to make the mouth water a lot. Also, if you want to have it for your brunch then you can have these yummy fried chicken steaks with a couple sunny side up eggs and the hash browns. This just does the trick. It’s absolutely not shocking that this Fried Chicken steak is yummy and versatile to go with any gravy or beans for something extra.

The boys at my home always love to order the fried chicken steak for that breakfast when we are out for breakfast. But it is damn easy to prepare these at home!! This can be done in a shorter time. There are many subpar recipes which l have tried but this one is not one among them.

This is the ultimate recipe l have developed in order to serve the fried chicken steak well.

How to properly season and flavor?

Every layer of the chicken steak should be seasoned, the steaks are seasoned with salt and pepper. The floor should be mixed with the herbs and spices, even the buttermilk and the egg batter gets seasoned with the Tabasco sauce.

Tabasco sauce is the one which can be used and in my home, it is the staple food. If you are worried about the spicy content which it can add to the dish, then just don’t be as it actually doesn’t let it happen.

Why is it called chicken fried steak?

It is called so even with the absence of any chicken in this dish because this steak gets fried in the way Chicken gets fried and hence, the name. It is made with cube steak.

The steak is dredged in the flour then to the buttermilk and egg batter and again back to the flour for the last time. Finally, it is fried to the golden creamiest layer.

A piece of advice for the best Chicken Fried Steak recipe:

  • No need to deep fry, l shallow fry it. Also, l prefer to use vegetable oil .
  • A heavy skillet works.
  • Never overload the pan, have two utmost. The temperature should be at 225-250 F of your oven to make the gravy crispy.
  • Buttermilk keeps the steaks nice and adds Tabasco sauce in it.

What do you need to make Chicken Fried Steak

2 tsp fresh ground black pepper, divided

2 TSP kosher salt or sea salt , divided

1 ½ cups all purpose flour

4 cube steaks

½ tsp garlic powder

½ tsp onion powder

½ tsp smoked paprika

½ tsp baking soda

½ tsp baking powder

1 ½ cups buttermilk

2 tsp Tabasco sauce

2 eggs

1 cup vegetable oil

Chicken fried steak gravy

4 tbsp grease

4 tbsp flour

2 to 3 cups whole milk

½ cup heavy whipping cream

Salt and pepper to taste

How to make Chicken Fried Steak

FIRST STEP:

Pour the grease into that heated bowl.

Add 4 tbsp grease in the hot skillet.

SECOND STEP:

Whisk in flour and continue whisking until brown.
