Basically, Picadillo is similar to ground beef hash. This recipe however has tons of flavor from the vegetables that are added.

This dish can be served in a number of ways, traditionally it is served over rice. However, you could serve it wrapped in a tortilla, over pasta or as is. The Picadillo only takes about 30 minutes to prepare, so you can have dinner ready for the crew in a short time.

Of course you can! Originally, it is believed the meat used in the traditional Picadillo was a sausage called Picadillo. You could certainly use that sausage if you can find it, you could use another flavor of sausage or you could try Chicken.

This dish is freezer friendly as long as it is cooled completely and placed into a freezer safe container. The Picadillo can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.

I would say it is a combination of the spices and the ingredients. The dish is seasoned just right and tastes superb.

What do you need to make Classic Mexican Picadillo Recipe

            1 small Onion, diced

            2 Potatoes, Russet, diced

            1 pound ground Beef

            2 carrots, peeled and diced

            4 Garlic Cloves, freshly minced

            ½ tsp Oregano

            1 tsp Cumin

            1 bay leaf

            ½ cup Peas, frozen

            1 ½ cups Beef Broth

            8 ounces Tomato Sauce

How to make Classic Mexican Picadillo Recipe

FIRST STEP:

In a skillet over medium high heat, crumble and brown the ground beef

Season with salt and pepper if desired

Add in the onions, potatoes and carrots

Cook until the vegetables are beginning to soften and the meat is no longer pink

SECOND STEP:

Stir in the beef broth and tomato sauce

Add in the Bay leaf, cumin and oregano

Bring the mix to a simmer

Cover and cook for 10 minutes

Remove the cover and stir in the peas

Cover and cook until the potatoes and carrots are soft

THIRD STEP:

Serve with Rice or wrapped in Tortillas
