Frequently Asked Questions:

Is this one of the healthier recipes?

I have trimmed down the calories and the fat in this recipe quite a lot. I used only egg whites and skim milk, no yolks. I used a cube steak which I fried in a nonstick pan, with a drop of oil. Not a deep frying process.

How did you reduce the calories and fat in the gravy?

Country fried steak is most often served with a milk based thick white gravy. For this recipe, I substituted lower sodium broth, a little cornstarch and some chopped mushrooms.

How can I create an even browning on each one?

The easiest method of doing this would be to only turn the steaks each over one time. When you turn or flip them more often, it weakens the coating, and then coating will fall off.
