This pie is actually a take on the cocoa cream pie my grandmother used to make when I was small.

This pie is perfect for Holiday gatherings, special dinners or a dessert just because you want chocolate or a great dessert.

This delicious Chocolate Cream pie is so easy to make and only takes 7 ingredients, and a little bit of time.

This is such a special pie for me as I was growing up. So each time I make it now, I fondly think back to my Grandma and all her fabulous cooking and the recipes that I got from her.

If you have any left, then carefully wrap the pie tightly with plastic wrap or place it in an airtight container and then place it in the refrigerator. It will last for 3 to 4 days.

Yes, you can place this pie in the freezer once it is tightly wrapped. The pie will be able to stay in the freezer for 2 to 3 months.

What do you need to make Old Fashioned Chocolate Cream Pie

            1 prebaked pie shell 8 or 9 inch

            ½ cup cornstarch

            ½ cup cocoa powder

            3 egg yolks

            1 ½ cup granulated sugar

            ¼ tsp salt

            2 cups whole milk

            1 tsp vanilla extract

            ¼ tsp salt

How to make Old Fashioned Chocolate Cream Pie

FIRST STEP:

Mix the cornstarch, cocoa powder, sugar, salt and the beaten egg yolks in a pan on the stove

Then gradually add the milk while continuing to stir over medium high heat

SECOND STEP:

Cook until smooth, beating until it is smooth

While continuing to stir, add in the vanilla

The mix will take 10 to 15 minutes to thicken, be patient

Once thickened, pour into a prebaked pie shell

THIRD STEP:

Place in the refrigerator to set and chill for several hours

Add whipped cream or meringue, if you desire, (if you add meringue, you will need to bake according to the directions for meringue.
