Wow, I really dug deep for this recipe. It is originally my grandmother’s. She made this yellow cake so many times over the years, it was like second nature knowing that we would get to enjoy this when we went to visit. Of course, me being me, I changed it up for the newer generations. I made it super easy to duplicate her recipe in much less time than she spent making it.
For that fact, I am not even giving you a recipe for the cake this time. You can go to your local store and pick up a yellow cake mix.
I mean really! This recipe is not about the delicious cake, it is simply about a long forgotten frosting that was used by my Grandma for so many years. I really was not sure if I wanted to try other frostings as I got older.
For all I knew they would taste terrible, because there was only supposed to be Peanut Butter Frosting.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Should I use Chunky or Creamy peanut Butter?
I only remember my Grandmother using Creamy peanut butter. I am sure that you could use chunky if you would like. I would think that the nuts in the frosting would make it harder to frost smoothly. You could sprinkle some chopped nuts on top if you would like.
Can I use a white cake mix?
Again, this recipe is not meant to be about the cake. However, yes, you could use a white cake mix. I was just thinking that I should try this frosting with a chocolate cake mix. I do love a good peanut butter and chocolate treat! You can sprinkle with some chopped nuts if you would like to after the cake is frosted. Yes, for those of you wondering, you can use other cake flavors if you want. I use the yellow as it brings back such happy memories for me and those can keep me smiling for days.
Can I use margarine instead of butter?
There will be a definite taste difference. Frosting is always much better when actual butter is used.
