Tropical Dump Cake

A dump cake – what is it? 

The cake is the easiest dessert and sometimes the hardest one. It can be pretty but it can be a disaster when there is a mismatch of the ingredients or even the slightest difference in the temperatures. Therefore sometimes it is avoided. There can be various types and flavors of cake and their versions all over the internet. But it takes a lot of practice to make a perfect one.

But over the years dump cake has been very popular. It is mainly because it is very easy to make and it uses very few ingredients. It is very easy to make.   They can be made by even a beginner baker. Just dump all ingredients in a baking tray and bake it.

It is partly a cobbler cake and a normal cake. (A cobbler cake is a fruit filling in a pastry dish covered with biscuits and baked. ) They became popular in America and then the world.

Since then there are many versions of dump cake all over the internet. It is popular because :

  • It can be made out of kitchen ingredients and
  • It is super easy
  • It can be quite helpful if you plan to include cake on an occasion at the last minute. Or when you want to eat dessert but a quick one and you are too tired.
  • It can be useful when you run out of the major baking soda and vanilla essences that are needed for cake or brownies.

 Dump cake – the recipe

It is made of 4 ingredients put in a baking tray and baked for 5 minutes and it’s ready.

Recipe 1:  Pineapple ice cream dump cake

Ingredients :

1 can (21 oz) ground cherry pie filling

1 can (15 oz) crushed pineapple or pineapple pieces

1 box (15.25 oz) of packaged cake mix

1 cup butter 

Method :

FIRST STEP:

Grease the baking dish with parchment paper or a baking sheet. 

Preheat the oven at 325 degrees F. Empty a can of pie filling

SECOND STEP:

Add crushed pineapple or pineapple cut pieces.

Spread it with a spoon evenly

THIRD STEP:

Add dry cake mix on top of it.

Add half cup butter cut into pieces and half cup melted butter on the top

FOURTH STEP:

Bake it until it turns golden and bubbly.

Bake it for 40 minutes. Lastly, add vanilla ice cream on top.

The variations of this cake

Dump cake can be made with various variations depending on favourites, flavours and things available.

You can make your own flavours by changing these ingredients :  

  • Strawberry pie, blueberry pie, Apple pie instead of pineapple pieces.
  • White cake mix, chocolate cake mix, lemon cake mix for dry cake mix.
  • Instead of vanilla ice cream add any other flavour of ice cream or brownie.

Recipe 2: Oreo Dump cake

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 box of vanilla pudding mix
  • 16 Oreo biscuits (whole )
  • 1/2 cup of white chocolate chips
  • 1 box of Funfetti cake mix or any other cake mix
  • 1 stick of thin slices of butter
  • 1/4 cup of rainbow sprinkles

Method

  • Grease the oven tray with butter or a baking sheet and heat the oven to 350 Degree F.  
  • In a separate bowl mix combine milk and vanilla pudding and whisk until it thickens for 2 minutes.
  • First spread the layer of vanilla mix and topple with Oreo biscuits and chocolate chips.
  • Then fill it with a funfetti mix and spread it with a spoon to remove the crumbs.
  • Then cover with butter. Sprinkle with rainbow sprinkles.
  • Bake it for 20 minutes.

Recipe 3: Mango Dump cake

Ingredients

  • 1 box of pineapple cake mix
  • 1 bottle of orange or lime soda
  • 1/2 cup of nuts
  • 3 ripened mangoes

 Method

  • Grease the oven tray with butter or a baking sheet and layer with mango pieces
  • First spread the layer of pineapple mix.
  • Then fill it with soda  and layer with nuts
  • Bake it for 35 to 40 minutes at 350 degrees F.

Recipe 4: Chocolate Cherry  Dump cake

 Ingredients

  • 2 cans (21 oz each) of cherry pie fillings
  • 1 box of Chocolate cake mix
  • ¾ cup melted butter
  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped topping

Method

  • Grease the oven tray with butter or a baking sheet. Put the oven on Preheat at 350 degrees F.
  • The bottom layer is the cherry pie filling.
  • Then spread the layer of chocolate cake mix. spread with a spoon or shake the tray if needed.
  • Cover it with melted butter.
  • Bake it for 42 to 50 minutes at 350 degrees F.
  • Decorate with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

 General cooking tip

  • When making a dump cake,  it is helpful if one checks that the fruit filling and the cake mix are spread evenly. There should be no lumps, otherwise, that part will remain uncooked.  
  • Also sometimes there can remain some cake mix on the cake which is fine.
  • The butter is cooked when it turns golden and bubbly.
