Fall is right around the corner and I have been digging through all sorts of recipes to find some new or different ones. I came across this one from my mom’s recipe box. I am deliriously in love with this Apple Orange Spice Cake. This is one of those desserts that just simply smells like fall. The aromas that waft through your house as you are baking this is delightful.
I used to love to sit down to relax for a short time each afternoon, yeah, that no longer is the option daily. However, when I do, I love to have a cup of coffee and a slice of cake.
This is the cake I would choose if I made it every time the cake was gone.
I am not so sure that my family would be willing to give up all the other cakes I have been making. They love fall as much as I do, however, they like pumpkin a touch more than I do. O yes, pumpkin rules the season at home.
Frequently Asked Questions:
How long does this cake last?
If it is left covered and on the counter, it is good for 3 to 5 days. In the refrigerator and covered tightly, it will last for 10 to 12 days. Just remember that the icing is a thin frosting that does tend to soak into the cake.
Could I use a plain cake mix?
You could use a plain yellow or vanilla cake mix. It will be lacking the spice factor that fall time is known for.
Can I freeze this cake?
As long as it is in an airtight container, you can freeze it nicely. The thin frosting may cause it to thaw in unexpected ways. The icing may completely soak into the cake as it is thawing.
